Walk in Light: 1 John 2:7–11
In 1 John 2:7–11, John takes the message of walking in the light and applies it to the way we love others. Jesus' command to love one another wasn't new, but He gave it a deeper meaning when He said, “Love one another as I have loved you.”Jesus didn't just tell us what love should look like—He showed us through His service, compassion, truth, forgiveness, and ultimately His sacrifice on the cross.
John challenges us to examine our hearts and our relationships. He makes it clear that our love for others is connected to our walk with Jesus. Holding onto hatred, bitterness, and unforgiveness doesn't just affect our relationships—it affects our own hearts, peace, joy, and walk with the Lord.
The good news is that we don't have to remain stuck in anger or resentment. We can choose to move toward the light through forgiveness, healing, and allowing God to work in our hearts.
Main Teaching Points:
Jesus didn’t just tell us to love; He showed us what love looks like.
How we love others reveals something about our relationship with Jesus.
Hatred and unforgiveness can keep us stuck in darkness.
Remember how much you've been forgiven.
Acknowledge your emotions and bring them honestly to God.
Ask God to show you where the hurt began.
Ask God what He wants you to know and how He wants you to respond.
1 John reminds us that the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining. As followers of Jesus, we are called to walk in that light by choosing love, forgiveness, and reconciliation whenever possible. We love because God first loved us.
