Walk in Light: 1 John 1:5–10
What does it actually look like to walk with Jesus? In 1 John 1:5–10, John begins with a foundational truth: God is light, and in Him there is no darkness. Because of who God is, how we live matters. Our lives should reflect the relationship we say we have with Jesus.
John challenges us to examine whether our walk matches our words. Walking in darkness is choosing to continue in a pattern of sin while claiming fellowship with God. But walking in the light doesn't mean living a perfect life—it means being honest about our sin, bringing it into the light, and allowing Jesus to cleanse and restore us.
The good news is that we don't have to hide or pretend. When we confess our sins, Jesus is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We are also reminded that we were never meant to walk this journey alone. We need to stay connected to God and to the community of believers for encouragement, accountability, prayer, and support.
Main Teaching Points:
- God is light—He is pure, holy, righteous, and true.
- Our lives should reflect our relationship with Jesus.
- Be honest with God.
- Confess your sin and receive His forgiveness.
- Stay connected to Jesus and His people.
Walking in the light doesn't mean you're perfect. It means you're willing to be honest with God, bring what is hidden into the light, and keep following Jesus.
