On Repeat: Psalm 62:8 – God Is Our Refuge

What do you do when you feel like you have nothing left in the tank? Psalm 62:8 gives us a simple truth to hold onto in every season: “Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.”

David gives us three commands that help us navigate seasons of struggle, uncertainty, and weariness: trust God, pour out our hearts to Him, and run to Him as our refuge. Trust means placing our confidence and dependence in God—not only when life is going well, but at all times. When life makes sense, when it doesn’t, when we are waiting, hurting, struggling, or blessed, we can trust Him.

David then reminds us that we don't have to hide what is happening in our hearts from God. We can pour out our fears, disappointments, doubts, struggles, pain, grief, and burdens before Him. God already knows our hearts, and He invites us to bring everything to Him.

Why can we do this? Because God is our refuge. He is our place of safety, security, hope, and protection. And ultimately, we see this refuge through Jesus, who stepped into our brokenness, carried our sin, and opened the way for us to confidently draw near to God.

Whatever you are carrying, pour it out. Whatever you are facing, trust Him. And always remember: God is our refuge.
